Justin Timberlake had no idea what the Eurovision Song Contest was before he agreed to perform on it.

The 35-year-old singer became the first non-contestant global pop star to perform at the singing competition in Stockholm, Sweden in May (16) when he sang Can’t Stop the Feeling and Rock Your Body.

The contest is well-known in Europe but it rarely catches attention across the Atlantic, and Justin admits he didn’t do his research before signing a deal to perform – leading many of his friends to question why he had agree to do it.

“I did (know what it was), but not before I said yes to it,” he admitted to U.K. chat show host Graham Norton. “Then, when I told people I was doing it they would respond with, ‘Oh, why are you doing that show?’”

Justin admits he didn’t see why he shouldn’t because the broadcast of the contest reaches a lot of a viewers, and adds, “It was a lot of fun.”

During the interview, Justin, who appeared with Trolls co-star Anna Kendrick, explained his most recent single Can’t Stop the Feeling would have been written differently he wasn’t father to Silas, 17 months.

“Canโ€™t Stop The Feeling was meant as a celebration but I wouldnโ€™t have written it that way if it wasnโ€™t for him,” he said.

Justin and wife Jessica Biel welcomed Silas into the world in April, 2015.
